EiE community

What is the Global Education in Emergencies Community?

This community is for network teachers, alumni and staff who are working in or are passionate about supporting children impacted by emergency situations. We define this as children who are refugees, internally displaced, living in conflict or post-conflict zones, or who are affected by other extreme circumstances such as natural disasters, climate change, etc.

Our community is focused on sharing resources and strategies to support crisis-affected students and teachers, including refugees. We meet monthly on virtual calls and use our Facebook group for ongoing collaboration and updates.

When was this community started?

It was established in 2020, by the CEOs of Teach For Afghanistan, Teach For Italy and Teach For Uganda, to learn about the different ‘emergency education’ challenges that network partners are navigating.

How do community members learn from and support each other?

The community connects via regular Zoom calls to share best practices, lessons learned and EiE resources. During the calls, community members brainstorm ideas and challenges, and external experts are also invited to talk about specific topics. The community can also exchange updates via the Facebook page, and they also receive the monthly EiE Newsletter.

What is the criteria for joining?

Admissions are open year-round, and the community is open to passionate professionals who want to learn how to more effectively support students affected by issues such as conflict, natural disasters, displacement, or other issues.

I appreciate how our community honours the wide range of emergencies that occur across the world, beyond the well-known sudden onset disasters. We place equal value on the many types and sizes of emergencies.
